Universal Music Group is hosting a special screening of the HBO Documentary Film, The Apollo, and a live panel discussion about this landmark New York City theater, in association with WhiteHorse Pictures and as part of New York Music Month Extended Play, an initiative of the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment. The film, which chronicles the unique history and contemporary legacy of the Apollo Theater, weaves together archival clips of music, comedy and dance performances from an astonishing list of legendary talents, behind-the-scenes verité footage of the team that makes the theater run and interviews with iconic musical artists. In addition, The Apollo examines the state of race relations in America –exploring not only the struggle of Black lives in America, but the role that art plays in that struggle, and the essential part the Apollo Theater continues to play in the cultural conversation.
